WEEK 07
------------
- find band to work with, get permission
- met with band, discussed their desires, realistic possibilities, and what we wanted to produce
- got permission, and they're really open to anything. yay!
- chose song and how the show should progress.
- set up blog
- gather references
- hone in desired theme/style/message
- set up schedule
- rough brainstorming sketches
- develop pitch pdf
WEEK 08
-------------
- go see band live to get feeling for how they perform (SATURDAY NIGHT!)
- CONCRETE IDEAS ON:
.. elements to loop
.. relationship story we want to tell
.. how to link that story to the pacing of the song
- initial set of style frames
- test animations of select looping patterns
WEEK 09
-------------
- finalized set of styleframes for majority of elements laid out
- test layering looped elements in with each other
- test projecting it
- more tests of loop animations, some of them should be real though
WEEK 10
-------------
- continue creating final loop animations
- start working on final compositing/overlays/transitions for the elements interacting
- start to build an initial really rough cut, see how it flows
WEEK 11
-------------
- rehearse rough cut with band to see how live performance changes things
- adapt from there
- keep building elements/compositing!
- start building rough cut v2, most likely with drastically different feel/flow based on live performance
WEEK 12
-------------
- finalize out rough cut
- have majority of elements rendered/designed/animated
- serious compositing and overlaying done
- rough cut v2 done
WEEK 13
-------------
- rehearse rough cut v2 with band, hopefully it works a lot better
- polish, more animation, etc
WEEK 14

Interesting Live VJ technique
that also builds on the idea of looping and patterns. It's not embedable, so here's a link

Brainstorm!
Since all their music loops, I was thinking of building on that theme, from water cycles, to the day to day cycle that we go through. And since he told us that this piece is about her girlfriend, how he met her doing winter, maybe the cycle is broken, so we can show the same cycle over and over again, until she comes in.
Or we can do it where the cycle repeats itself, but everytime it does something changes within that cycle, like he's going insane, until something breaks him out of that cycle.
Or it could be a negative cycle, where the person is using drugs, until someone saves him
I think there are a lot of possibilities here, let me know what you think

Precomps!
Webby Awards 2008 Animated Alphabet from Nick Campbell on Vimeo.
So I really like this idea, where we create small precomps, and put them together to create a complicated animation. It's definitely a time saver

Lo-fi motion design
I really like lo-fi "special effects" or camera tricks. Things along the lines of a lot of Michel Gondry's work, but also things a lot more simple, like these:

and I think stuff like this is way within our means to pull out to 3 minutes, and fits with the tone of the music/theme of looping
